Applications
Potassium Salt Production: 90% potassium hydroxide is a key raw material for the production of various potassium salts, including potassium carbonate (K₂CO₃), potassium bicarbonate (KHCO₃), MKP potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and potassium permanganate. These potassium salts are widely used in glassmaking, pharmaceuticals, food additives, and other fields. In the inorganic industry, 90% potassium hydroxide is also used to produce important chemical intermediates such as potassium nitrite and dipotassium hydrogen phosphate.
Organic Synthesis: In organic synthesis, 90% potassium hydroxide acts as a strong base catalyst in various chemical reactions. For example, it catalysts aldol condensation reactions, and KOH powder can be used to prepare chalcones. In fine chemical production, 90% potassium hydroxide is also used to produce oxalic acid and various organic potassium compounds.
Electroplating and Surface Treatment: In the electroplating industry, 90% potassium hydroxide is used as a key component of the electrolyte, improving the quality of the coating and enhancing corrosion resistance. It is also used in metal surface treatment processes such as degreasing and rust removal, and as an alkaline cleaning agent in electroplating processes. 90% potassium hydroxide is also widely used in fields such as engraving and lithography.
Alkaline Battery Electrolyte: 90% potassium hydroxide, as the electrolyte in alkaline batteries, exhibits excellent ionic conductivity and stability. In alkaline zinc-manganese batteries, potassium hydroxide solution serves as the electrolyte, and its concentration and purity significantly impact battery performance. KOH solution is an essential component of typical active material formulations within batteries.
Dyeing and Bleaching: 90% potassium hydroxide is widely used in the textile industry for dyeing, bleaching, and mercerizing. In these processes, its strong alkalinity helps remove impurities from fabrics, improving dyeing results and whiteness.
Dye Production: In the dye industry, 90% potassium hydroxide is used to produce vat dyes, such as vat blue RSN, as well as melamine dyes. These dyes are widely used in the textile printing and dyeing industry.
Soap Manufacturing: 90% potassium hydroxide is the primary raw material for the production of potassium soap, dirt-washing soap, and shampoo soap. Compared to sodium hydroxide, potassium soap made with potassium hydroxide has better water solubility and is particularly suitable for the production of liquid detergents.
Cosmetics Production: In the cosmetics industry, 90% potassium hydroxide is used in the manufacture of products such as vanishing creams, cold creams, and shampoos. It primarily serves as a pH adjuster in these products, helping to maintain product stability and performance.

Storage & Handling
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from acids and moisture.
- Since potassium hydroxide is highly hygroscopic, its moisture content will increase when exposed to air, so please keep the container sealed.
- Always wear protective gloves, goggles, and clothing.
- In case of spills, neutralize with dilute acid (e.g., acetic acid) and rinse with water.
Usage Notice
- Corrosive substance — causes severe skin and eye burns. Handle with care.
- Always add KOH to water slowly, never the reverse, to avoid splashing from heat release.
- Ensure adequate ventilation and avoid inhalation of dust.
- Follow local chemical safety regulations and use PPE.
- Dispose of residues and packaging according to environmental standards.
